5 Tips for Timeless Design
Another Member Success Story and Lessons Learned from Home Tour
You all know that I never get tired of sharing my member's work and design talent! In this HSR member success story, I'm featuring my girl Cathy Di Leo out of Tampa Florida who spent many months dialing in her client's space and noticeably stuck to a timeless design. Watch the video below to see my design tips and her amazing work:
Keep in mind these were just quick pics that Cathi took on her iPhone but you can definitely see that she created a design plan that is both functional and timeless. Here are some quick tips for nailing more timeless design for your clients:
- Mix Styles and Especially Add Transitional/Traditional: Cathi mixed vintage with contemporary and transitional pieces for an overall curated look. When rooms are all in one style (especially the style du jour) it dates the space to that time period.
- Focus on Classic Millwork: The coffered ceilings and millwork throughout is a timeless element to invest in that always adds style and beauty to a space!
- It's Okay to Trend on Light Fixtures: While it's best to go timeless and even boring on fixed elements, feel free to go a little crazy on the lighting. Why? Because light fixtures are the easiest items to change/swap out in a space so why not let your personality shine a bit.
- Warm it Up: All timeless spaces have a warmth to them that transcends any kind of gray or black and white trend. Cathi mixed white millwork with wood shelves and classic patterns to warm up each room.
- Don't Go Crazy on Finishes: The fireplaces my seem a bit boring at first but by going simple on the surround and a classic white, these clients are not going to tire of the look. Boring is good when it comes to fixed finishes that are not easy to swap out.
Okay, well I'm off to speak at the RESA Convention on adding design, so I hope to see many of you there!
