My Take on the 2024 Color Trends and What it Means for Design and Staging
Below is a quick video I created showing you each manufacturers 2024 Color Trends and pick for the year, as well as my opinion on how to interpret that into design.
1 - Big Color Trends 2024 - Blues Will Be Huge
When you have four big color companies pick some form of blue for the color for the year, you have to take notice!
First up, Benjamin Moore partnered with aerospace company Blue Origin to choose Blue Nova for their color of the year. Now, careful with this color because it has a violent undertone. If you are going to use it on your walls, make sure you test it in every light because you may walk in and feel like you have a purple space. If you're not a fan of that, you may not want to use it. But it's a very rich blue with a tricky undertone.
Sherwin-Williams also picked a form of blue called Upward. This color is very light, airy and pastel-like... similar to a pair of light colored blue jeans. Where I think this color would work really well is in a soft, tranquil bedroom space or in coastal homes.
The paint company that picked a form of blue was Valpar, and they picked Renew Blue. It's got a little bit more of a blue-green undertone.
Finally, yet another paint company picked a shade of blue and that was C2's choice of Thermal. This sky blue has a vintage feel and would work well again in a bedrooms and coastal homes.
Minwax also picked a form of blue called Bay Blue, so ultimately we have five paint companies betting on blue. Will Pantone do the same?
2 - Big Color Trends 2024 - Pastels Make a Comeback
I would be remiss if I didn't notice that a couple of the blues above have a pastel feel which makes me wonder if pastels will make the strong return they had in the 1980's. HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams chose another pastel in Persimmon which consequently would go well with their own choice of Upward.
4 - Dark and Moody Still Trending Strong - Big Color Trend 2024
This is an ongoing trend we are going to see because who doesn't love drama and contrast in their space? With Behr's color of the year 2024 being cracked pepper it may replace Sherwin Williams Tricorn as a better choice of dramatic black.
5 - Muted, Earthy Greens Still Trending - Big Color Trend 2024
When two paint companies pick some form of earthy, muted green for their 2024 color of the year, you have to notice that this trend (which started a couple years back) is not going away anytime soon!
2024 Color Trends Conclusion
